The 1883 collection represents Hamilton's shirt-making prowess applied to a soft constructed sport shirt designed for casual versatility. Although there are differences in our 1883 and Classic collections, some things remain the same; every shirt is made from the finest fabrics and hand-cut and sewn in the USA. 1883 is a number that marks our long history of shirtmaking. 1883 shirts are contemporary yet effortless; calm, cool, collected, and always in style.
The contemporary lens through which hamilton pushes 140 years of expertise and craft.
1883 is continually reviewed and updated to reflect contemporary styling, but the principle of the 1883 construction is unconstructed. From the collar to the cuffs, every detail has a casual, lived in feel. No collar stays. A shorter tail that can comfortably be worn untucked. In Italy, it’s known as sprezzatura: a studied carelessness. Designed to be discriminatingly dressed down.
We combed our favorite mills for the most pleasure-filled prints to inspire anyone’s style this year. Tropical foliage, avian silhouettes, refined paisleys—mixed with a stunning collection of stripes, checks, and solids. These prints and patterns apply a touch of personality and character to the 1883 collection.
The word Seersucker comes from Hindi and originates in the Persian words shîr and shakar, which mean milk and sugar. The words describe the smooth, creamy stripes, and the raised textured stripes which resemble sugar. Seersucker is well known for its textured, breezy attributes; but Hamilton 1883 seersuckers aren’t your average railroad stripe numbers. We pulled classed-up solids for versatility and a pop of color where it’s needed.
From chambray to oxford, these are your new favorite shirts. Pair them with your most treasured blazer or jeans often for a look well worn to perfection. Solid numbers, refined stripes, or versatile checks—these Hamilton shirts apply classic, always-appropriate aesthetics to the modern soft-construction of our 1883 collection.
